Lernaean Liana
Lernaean Liana is a type of carnivorous flora. It will appear as a tangle of thick, woody grapevines poorly concealing a treasure hoard (often intermingled with skeletons), but when creatures come within 5', it springs to life. The vines lash out at their prey, quickly coiling around them and crushing them to death. Its root network then expands to include the rotting corpses of its victims, absorbing their nutrients.
When a vine of Lernaean Liana is severed, two vines regrow in its place. It becomes more powerful with each vine.
11 HD: Lernaean Liana reaches terminal size, it regenerates back up to 11 vines but no greater. It will use most of its vines to weave a "basket" beneath its treasure horde and root network, and slowly drag itself to a more fruitful position or in search of more treasure for its hoard. A trail of dirt, bones, and coins are a telltale sign of a Lernaean Liana's path. It may be added to a wandering monster table or simply relocated to a high-traffic area.
Origins: Though often believed to be the result of wizardry gone wrong, Lernaean Liana originates from the fey realm. It is said to have been cultivated by satyrs as part of an elaborate prank.
